Biography

 

Jim Denney was born and resides in Alexander City, Alabama. Jim attended Central Alabama Community College and the University of Montevallo. From a young age Jim showed an interest in drawing and painting with wildlife being the primary focus. He was hired as a graphic artist for a fortune five hundred company in 1992 using his talent and creativity to develop graphics for sportswear and apparel. Following that he started his own freelance business consisting of fine art, graphic art, and photography with a continued focus on the natural world. Jim has won numerous awards for his art over the years. He won the Alabama duck stamp competition in 2007,2011,2015, & 2019 and is the only 4 time winner in state history. Other top awards include Best of Show in the Alabama Wildlife Federation art competition in 2009, 2010, 2014, & 2016. Jim also won Best of Wildlife division in the Energen Corporation “Wonders of Alabama Art” show in 2011 and 2013. In 2014 he was awarded an Ozzie Award for his original paintings that appeared in the national quail hunting publication, Covey Rise magazine. Jim is very diverse in his artistic mediums using acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and oils. In 2012 Jim studied under award winning oil painter Roger Dale Brown of Nashville, Tennessee. An avid photographer, he has also won multiple awards for his wildlife and landscape photography. In 2017 Jim led a photographic expedition in search of the critically endangered ivory-billed woodpecker. His clients have included Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, Bass ProShops, Cabela’s, Grizzly Tobacco Co. and Mack’s Prarie Wings. In 2019 Jim was hired by Grizzly tobacco company for a national advertising campaign featuring his wildlife art in a series of products. Jim continues to paint, photograph and explore nature on a daily basis and enjoys living on beautiful Lake Martin in central Alabama.
